Spring Carnival

After enjoying a friend's birthday party, we couldn't resist walking out on the Yukon River for a bit. After all, their house was literally right on the river. Spring Carnival was scheduled to begin the next day (last Friday) and we were excited to see what was gonna go down.

Friday afternoon we watched dog sled races and after all the teams had taken off there were cross country ski races. The boys could have participated, but we didn't know ahead of time. Clint was a little unsure when it was time for his age to race. He decided right after that he wanted to do it too...and now its all he talks about....racing next year that is. Preston was a ways off playing in the snow with friends, or I'm sure he would have gladly accepted the offer.

This was such an exciting thing to see and hear. Tons of dogs getting hooked into harnesses and ready to RUN! You could see the excitement in them as they prepared, and if you weren't looking, you could hear it in the howling!

Saturday invloved more dog sled races and snow show races too. This time we were prepared! The boys were extremely excited. Here's Clint before his race:

Aren't these 3 year olds the cutest? These are Clint's buddies.
Tenia, Lily, Kaden, Clint, Hawkin at the start and ready to go!
Here they come!
Clint finished second place, with a giant smile from ear to ear. Then came the 4 & 5 yr olds
Jayna, Finn, Milo, Preston at the starting line.

Milo and Preston racing for the finish.
Preston actually finished first place. He was a little bit pleased with himself. Sunday after church we watched more dog sled races and the kids enjoyed playing with friends in the snow. Then Tuesday we had an awards ceremony at the school.
Clint, Kaden, and Preston with their awards.
Kopp cousins: Preston, Amanda, Daniel, Clint. They all competed and got awards.

Enjoyed the pictures and comments. We will try to send some pix from Lake O Pines next week but hope the lake isn't frozen. Love Papa& Nonna

That looks like so much fun! I want to move to Alaska, especially after the VERY warm weather we have been having ALREADY! The kids are so cute and I am sure the parents were as proud as the kids when the awards were handed out. Great going, Preston and Clint.

I didn't see Chris hooking maggie and sam into their harnesses on the dog sled. I guess you can get that picture next time.
