Look at all the dirt on this precious face! Although rebuilding was happening everywhere we looked, life went on. Usually the events of the day involved us being coated in the silt that was on everything. Here Clint is modeling that silty look for you.
The kids got to enjoy a little bit of summer in Galena before school started. Our family loves to be outside, but that means we have to endure the bugs. The Mosquitos had died down a bunch by the time we got back, but the gnats were just getting started. Often the gnats would drive the kids inside for a break.
Daniel spent some of his afternoons playing over at our house with the boys. Raspberries were turning ripe and they decided to make a raspberry and fresh flower stand. And let me tell you, these boys sold some berries!
Another part of the last days of summer weather, making sausage from bear meat. At the Kokrine Hills Bible Camp they shot a bear coming into camp and donated the meat to us. Breakfast sausage in the freezer, oh yeah!
Surprisingly, some of our veggie plants actually produced. Some floated away. Most of the starts died. We depend on the community garden as our planting ground and it stayed underwater for a really long time. Even if it hadn't we needed to focus our energies on rebuilding. We had some lettuce you can see in the pot behind Cara. Oh, and look at the lovely bug net Cara is sporting.
I like this pic above because you can see several things going on. Things to notice: a tomato plant, new railing on the stairs, water holding tank next to the stairs (that's how Chris set up our temporary water), water hauling tank on the trailer, and a saw set up with a volunteer working on cutting furring strips for my downstairs walls.

The kids and I picked raspberries and got enough to bake a pie, if the kids hadn't snacked on them while we were walking. So it was a mostly fresh-with a few frozen raspberry pie.
We had a 'pie in pajamas' night.

Clint learned to ride his bike this summer. He's got one speed: fast.

Cara got a new bike this summer and has done a great job learning to pedal and use her breaks.

This lucky frog was our pet for a while. The kids made him a frog habitat and played with him non stop.
