He ain't gettin our pic-a-nic basket

We don't get many bears in town, and when they come the village doesn't waste any time makin sure they don't stay around long if ya know what I mean.

Typical Galena Saturday morning until we hear news of a black bear in town and moving further into town. Volunteers are working on several homes nearby. Galena is hosting a men's softball tournament so we have out of town guests. In our backyard a momma moose with twin newborn calves bedded down for a while. (Hint hint, bears like moose calves)

Chris decided to walk over to the volunteers to give them a heads up because the last sighting was that the bear was headed our way.

A couple other men in town were alerted and together they brought the bear down. Neither of the other men wanted the bear, so Chris brought it home. So we got it all processed. We made Alton Browns breakfast sausage, THE BEST! And we tried our hand at Bear Dogs. Oh my, the bear dogs were soo good! I think we're making all our own hot dogs this year.

A couple of evenings later we had to have a cook out with the kids so we could all enjoy some together. A pic-a-nic  where we ate the bear, and no bear stole our pic-a-nic basket!

If you cook a hot dog on the open fire, you gotta have a s'more with it!
