Chris and I thought it would be fun to take Mom and Dad out on our brand new boat. We purchased it through a friend in town, and then our friend offered to float it down the Yukon to bring it to us rather than barging it out. Pretty cool deal. So anywho, we were hoping to enjoy the boat and the river, and we wanted opportunity for Mom and Dad to see more wildlife. After packing a sack lunch, off we went.
Of course, not too far up river, our motor died. Chris tells me the lower unit went out. Now, it had just traveled a long journey and was just fine, but on our nice short excursion it gave out. Did you notice I mentioned we went up river. Its a good thing because that river flows fast. So we floated for a while before deciding the motor would not be repaired out on the water. Luckily we have oars in the boat for just such occasions. Oh, wait, somehow they were NOT in the boat this trip. Hmm. Oh, and of 3 cell phones, no one had service. Hmm. This is where the previous mentioned 'funny' of Preston's occurs. "Daddy, why didn't we just bring the oars?" To which Chris replies: "Because Daddy is an idiot." I guess P didn't know what to say because he was silent. So while floating, hoping to reach a spot that has cell service, we take some time to enjoy our lunch, and kept the kids entertained with Pringles (a treat for us).
Cara sitting with Chris and getting some fresh air. It wasn't too long before Chris was able to contact a couple of people. Kenton arrived first to rescue us. We hooked up to be towed back to Galena. Half way there our friend Gunnar found us. So thankful to have friends that would come to our rescue.

Did you know a child life vest can also double as a head rest if needed? Hee hee. Well, we saw lots of beautiful scenery, had a relaxing ride, but missed out on the wildlife. It was a fun trip. As of now the boat has been repaired and its been out multiple times. Its working just fine, oh, and we put an oar in the boat and we'll make sure it resides there permanently.
Note: Even if we'd had the oars, we would not have wanted to paddle back to Galena.

Proud of all of you for making the best of the situation. Papa and I got stranded last week and he thought of using the top as a sail to help the trolling motor out.
An interesting boat trip. Guess we will get to see wildlife another time. It was fun floating around especially since we knew people were coming. LOL! Glad we went up river and that we had planned on having lunch while we were out anyway. The boys loved everything about once Michelle told Preston it was fine and nothing would happen to us. It was a party after that. It was amazing how he was so reassured in one second!
Glad the paddle is staying in the boat now.........just in case. It would have really tough paddling without friends coming to get us, so I am very thankful for your friends.
