We're traveling back in time to September. As I was browsing my pictures and remembering where all we've been, I couldn't overlook our week in Port Alsworth, AK at Tanalian Bible Camp the last week of September. For our family, we generally have a full schedule. We basically boarded the plane the day after we finished moose butchering. Then, October included a weekend trip to Anchorage courtesy of Iliamna Air Taxi. We also had a group of church family visit from Pineville, LA. Our week in Port Alsworth (although sandwiched between 2 busy periods) was really special.
We attended some meetings for SEND the first couple of days (Galena Bible Church is partnering with SEND helping missionaries get prepared to be in a village, thus increasing longevity), then Arctic Barnabus finished off the week with their Ministry Family Retreat. It was a week of connection, refreshment, encouragement, and fun for our family. Did I mention Port Alsworth is beautiful? Its probably the most beautiful place I have ever been.
The kids loved playing on this swing right outside the dining hall. It was also very special for them to make friends with other missionary kids across Alaska. They can't wait to see them again next year!
Although, we had an amazing worship and teaching time as adults, the kids had an equally amazing time with the children's staff they brought in to love on and teach our kids all week. I got pics of the kids with their teachers.
Clint and Becca. This was the second time they've been able to play together. The first was when Becca's family visited us last Spring. These two are a riot!
Becca, the children's team leader, grew up as a MK in Haiti. My kids all adore her, and thought her hair was as amazing as their own.
We were delayed flying out because of weather. However, it provided the opportunity to canoe in the snow....a first. The kids missed playing with all their new pals that were able to fly out as scheduled, but we spent the extra day enjoying ourselves.
We took a walk down the run way to check out all the airplanes. Planes planes and more planes. Lots of exploring every direction you turn. We sure hope we can make this trip next year.
