March 30th, Preston turned 9, and it was the day we returned from Fairbanks when we went to the swim meet. We were exhausted, but I did manage to cook a birthday dinner for him, Shrimp fettuccine, and he opened a few birthday gifts. He got to talk to his grandparents on the phone, and other than that it was a very slow afternoon and evening. I also managed to take exactly zero pictures of that whole little family celebration. Whoops. Because of our extremely full calendar for the month of March, we planned to have Preston's party late and combine it with Cara's.
April 10th, Cara's birthday rolled around and it still wasn't party day, but we did our little family celebration. After breakfast she opened up a few gifts from family, and she was able to talk to all her grandparents.
Preston also got to open up his gifts from Chris and I that morning. They were late arriving. Preston loves to read, and we love that he loves to do that, so we decided to expand his collection of Tin Tin books. He devoured them within the first few days, but they are a popular book to reread.
Cara chose the entire menu for us on her birthday. Clint was pretty excited about her choices, so he decided to make a menu so that everyone could be looking forward to each meal. I thought he did a really good job!
If you aren't sure about some of his spelling it says:Pumpkin Pancakes (breakfast), (lunch) mac and cheese, banana sandwich with nutella.
After dinner, Cara thought it would be fun to go for a sno-go ride, so Chris pulled us around for a while. Cara always cheers him on to "Go faster, Daddy!".
The next day was party day. Because our weather was particularly wonderful and mild, we were able to have the party outdoors. We kept it very simple and baked cupcakes and popped popcorn for everyone to munch on, and Chris planned to take kids by the sled load for rides. Our snow was beginning to disappear from the roads, but there was still plenty of opportunity to ride on the trails behind the house.
And here's the birthday girl, turning 5! Cara is sweet and snuggly. She likes to give hugs and kisses to her dad and me. She still loves dresses, dressing up, and anything fancy or adorable. Her favorite colors are still pink and purple. She likes playing with her brothers, loves books, and she can't wait to start Kindergarten so she can do real school like the boys She has some of the most expressive faces, and can really have us laughing in stitches. She likes to know what the plan is each day, what day of the week it is, and how many more days until Sunday. She likes singing, though usually not in front of us, and she likes to dance. We are so proud of our Cara-boo.
Preston at 9, he's getting so big! Preston is still Mr. creative and full of ideas. He is still curious and likes trying new things and meeting new people. He absolutely loves playing violin, and has learned so much in his first year. He loves reading, building with legos, is a really good friend, and does a good job helping at home. He enjoys being outside, and is looking forward to beaver hunting, duck hunting, and camping very soon. So proud of the boy he is!

Nice update! Looks like everyone liked their gifts and their party. So glad it was nice enough to go outside for the party. I know you guys love to finally get outside when the weather is pleasant. And good sunshine! Love all of these pictures! Counting the days!
Oh and the only thing I missed on the menu was the banana and nutella. I got all of the rest of the words. Way to go, Clint!
