Iditarod

We really enjoyed watching the Iditarod coming through Galena this year. Every other year the trail goes through Galena. There's lots to read up on about the race online if you're (friends and family in the south) interested.

Some mushers signed in at the checkpoint but then went straight through without a break. Others stopped for a rest.

These were the vets that came out to examine each dog (to make sure they were healthy to continue the race) upon their arrival.

Cara really liked this dog team because of their pink booties. This team was signing in at the checkpoint before heading down the hill where the dogs could rest for a while. I can only imagine how tired the mushers were. But before they could rest they had to take care of the dogs.

This last pic is of Kristy or Anna Berington. I get them mixed up because they are identical twins and both were at Galena's checkpoint this afternoon. Anywho, she was so kind to talk with us as she served up some steak for her dogs. Preston and his friend Mackenzie followed her around never leaving her side during her whole routine of getting the dogs taken care of. They asked her a lot of questions which she was happy to answer and she had some questions for them too. She even gave P some dog booties for Sam.
